ST GEORGE - Seattle U baseball rode an impressive day at the plate to takedown Dixie State, 11-3, Thursday night in Utah.
After falling behind 0-1 in the second inning, the Redhawks put up four in the top of the third inning and never trailed again. All four runs in the inning came courtesy of a Derek Gellos grand slam, apart of a fiver rbi night for the third baseman.
After a two run inning from the Trailblazers in the third, Seattle U put distance between them and Dixie State by bringing home five in the sixth and one-a-piece in both the seventh and eight on their way to a 11-3 victory. Other big performances at the plate included Kyle Sherick and Aidan Welch who also both homered, with Sherick finishing his day with three rbi.
Not being lost in the dominance in the batters box, was the performance of strarter Peter Chronowski. He would go six innings while only giving up three earned runs to pickup win number three on the campaign. Riley Sinclair would be the lone arm out of the bullpen, not allowing a single run over the final three innings of the game to secure his first save.
The win pushes the Redhawks winning streak to four and brings them within a half game of fourth in the WAC West Division standings.
Game two of the series is set for tomorrow, May 6 with another 5 pm pt first pitch. Brady Liddle will get the start on the mound for the Redhawks as he tries to pickup win number three.
