SEATTLE – Seattle U women's rowing senior Hannah Sjogren was named a 2022 Seattle U Mission Award winner, presented May 19 at the Red Night Out Awards Celebration. The annual awards celebrate various levels of involvement reflective of multiple facets of Seattle University's mission.

The Mission Award recognizes students who have made outstanding contributions to the university community in areas central to the values in the Seattle University Mission Statement. There are six separate awards each honoring one recipient.

Sjogren was honored as the winner under the category of Justice, which recognizes a student who cares about justice for humans and all living things; is conscious of the far reaching effects of their actions; and works for justice at the local and/or global level through direct service and social change, such as political action, community organizing, or advocacy.

Nominated by LaKesha Kimbrough, Washington Middle School Site Coordinator from the Center for Community Engagement, and Bobby Matthews, Assistant Director of the Redhawk Experience, Hannah has served as a mentor in the Redhawk Academic Mentoring Program at Washington Middle School for three years. She also worked at St. Francis House and participated in Virtual Story Time. This spring, she started a new program called Change Makers at Garfield High School in partnership with the CCE to help seniors transition to college.

After graduation, Hannah will be in graduate school at Long Beach State University, where she will be in a one-year Master of Social Work program. After that program is completed, Sjogren plans to work in a hospital setting as a medical social worker.
