SEATTLE – Back in person for the first time in three years, more than 300 guests gathered on Saturday, May 21 at the Fremont Studios to celebrate Seattle University Athletics and Redhawk student athletes at the 2022 Red Tie Celebration.
The ninth annual signature event of Redhawk Athletics raised more than $300,000 for Seattle U student athletes. The evening celebrated the opportunity to get back to together in person, the many accomplishments and achievements of 2021-22 and placed a spotlight on The Redhawk Experience (TREx) program – Seattle U's distinctive Ignatian approach to intercollegiate athletics.
Through this lens, student athlete stories were shared, including a keynote address from Tyler Yeh, '20, a Seattle U baseball and Albers School of Business and Economics alumni.
Co-chairs of the 2022 Red Tie Celebration were Suzie Burke, '63, CEO of Fremont Dock, and John and Sue Verduin, '83, who spoke about the impact Seattle U has had on their lives and that of their children, Bev and Johnny, who are both Redhawk alums.
In addition to a live auction and the traditional "Raise-the-Paddle" segment, the evening included remarks from Director of Athletics Shaney Fink and Seattle University President Eduardo Peñalver.
