SEATTLE – David Whyte joins the Seattle University student athlete support services team as Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance, Associate AD for Compliance and Student Athlete Services Eric Guerra announced Thursday. In addition to his role in compliance at Seattle U, Whyte will also serve as the Redhawks' Athletics Diversity and Inclusion Designee.
Whyte comes to Seattle U from Kentucky Wesleyan where he served as the Compliance and Student Athlete Development Coordinator since August 2021.
"We are thrilled to welcome David to Seattle University," said Guerra. "From our very first conversation it was clear that his acumen and commitment to caring for the whole student will enhance the Redhawk student athlete experience and enrich our team."
At Kentucky Wesleyan, Whyte assisted the athletic department with NCAA compliance, academic support, student athlete development and welfare issues, diversity and inclusion initiatives, and support the goals and policies of KWC, the G-MAC and the NCAA.
"I would like to thank Kentucky Wesleyan for allowing me the opportunity to learn and grow as their compliance and student athlete development coordinator this past year," said Whyte. "I'm extremely excited to get started at Seattle University. I'm grateful for the opportunity from Shaney Fink and Eric Guerra to pay it forward to current and future Redhawk student athletes. I look forward to taking the Seattle U student athlete programing to the next level and help student athletes pursue their passions while excelling at what they do best."
Prior to Kentucky Wesleyan, Whyte served as the Sports & Exercise Psychology Consultant for the women's soccer team at Barry University in Miami, Fla. Along with working with women's soccer, Whyte was Barry's Athletic Compliance Intern. Prior to his time at Barry, Whyte was an Athletic Administrative Assistant and Facilities Coordinator Intern in the Morgan State Athletic Department from 2012-17.
Whyte graduated with a B.S. in Psychology from Morgan State University in 2017 and earned his MBA/M.S. in Sports, Exercise, and Performance Psychology from Barry University in May of 2021.
