LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The NFCA announced its All-Region awards for the 2022 season, with Seattle U's own Carley Nance and Olivia Viggiano honored. Nance earned All-Region Second Team and Viggiano earned All-Region Third Team. This is the fourth consecutive season that the Redhawks have had at least one player earn All-Region and the third consecutive year that multiple Redhawks have done so.
For Nance, the All-Region honor is the third of her career, making her the first Redhawk ever to earn All-Region three times in their Seattle U careers. Nance was already one of just two Redhawks, along with Ally Choate, to earn All-Region multiple times. She has now been named All-Region Second Team in the 2019, 2021, and 2022 seasons for Seattle U.
The 2022 WAC Player of the Year, Nance was a force at the plate and in the circle this season. The Maple Valley, Washington native tied the single-season Seattle U RBI record with 58 and hit 15 home runs, the second-most in the single season in Seattle U history. In the circle, she would become the first Redhawk in Division I history to win 50+ career games and the first to record 400+ strikeouts. In WAC play, Nance had a 0.45 ERA, giving up just two earned runs in 40 innings of work in conference play.
This is Viggiano's first career All-Region award, making her the fifth Redhawk ever to earn NFCA All-Region honors. She joins Choate as the only outfielders ever to earn All-Region for the Redhawks. This is the third straight year Viggiano has earned year-end honors: she earned All-WAC in 2019 and 2021, then earned All-Region and WAC All-Defensive this season.
Viggiano became Seattle U's all-time leader in runs scored this year and led the team in both batting average and stolen bases as a rock atop the lineup. She had 19 multi-hit games en route to her third season of 50+ hits. In the field, Viggiano would make just three errors despite playing every inning of every game in centerfielder for the Redhawks.
