SEATTLE - Seattle U track and field set numerous great marks on day two of the 2022 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championships at Husky Track in Seattle on Friday. Seattle U earned two All-WAC Second Team honors, set three school records and two athletes advanced to the finals on Saturday.
Junior Lucas Milne got SU's day started, earning All-WAC Second Team honors with a seventh-place finish and set a new school record in the decathlon at 5974. The Kailua, Hawaii, native set new personal best marks in the discus throw, pole vault, shot put, 400m and 1500m over the two-day event.
On the track, sophomore Gus Harquail finished in sixth place with a time of 8:59.44 in the 3000m steeplechase, setting a school record and earning All-WAC Second Team honors. The Portland, Oregon, native set the school record in the steeplechase for the second time this season, improving by about three seconds.
Junior Ansel Pendley-Griffin was the final Redhawk that set a school record Friday, beating his previous mark in the 800m by .9. The Norman, Oklahoma, qualified for the 800m finals after claiming the eighth and final spot at 1:52.63.
Sophomore Maya McCabe was the other Redhawk to qualify for the finals, winning her heat and taking second place overall in the 800m at 2:09.09.
The 1500m quartet of juniors Marie-Therese Chahrouri, Ellie Postma, sophomore Grace Much and freshman Lilianne Hargreaves will all be competing in the 1500m finals on Saturday after they claimed spots Friday.
Championship events will begin at 10 a.m. with the women's discus, while track events start at 3:30 p.m. with the men's 400m relay.
