HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The Seattle U Redhawks jumped out of the gates hot and rolled to an 8-0 win over the New Mexico State Aggies in their first game of the WAC Tournament. Madison Kahwaty and Carley Nance both hit solo home runs, with Kahwaty also adding an RBI double in the first.

The Redhawks put runners on base every inning and had runners in scoring position in all but one. Kahwaty had three hits for the Redhawks and was one of three to score multiple runs, along with Nance and Olivia Viggiano.

In the circle, Nance passed Andie Larkins for Seattle U's all-time Division I wins record, recording her 49th career win with five shutout innings of work. She would retire 12 in a row at one point and allowed only one hit, coming on a bunt by the first batter of the game.

Grace Luderer would strike out the side in a scoreless sixth, recording her 100th strikeout of the season. Luderer became the first freshman in Seattle U history with 100 strikeouts and just the fourth Redhawk ever to do so, joining Erin Martin, Shi Smith, and Carley Nance.

SCORING
  • First Inning: Viggiano's leadoff single started things off right as the centerfielder came around to score on Kahwaty's gap-shot double.
  • Third Inning: Back-to-back homers from Kahwaty and Nance chased New Mexico State's starter and made it 3-0.
  • Fourth Inning: The Redhawks took advantage of three errors by the Aggies to push their lead to 7-0.
  • Sixth Inning: A hard-hit single by Kalyn Hill was enough to bring Kahwaty around to score and trigger the run rule.
NOTES
  • Kahwaty (3x4, 3 R, 2B, HR, 2 RBI) has driven in at least one run in four straight games.
  • Nance (1x3, 2 R, HR) became the fourth Redhawk ever with 30 career homers.
  • Nance moved to 15 homers and 57 RBI, both the second-most in a single season in Seattle U history.
  • Nance (5.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K) now has a 2.03 ERA in WAC Tournament play in her career and a 0.31 ERA against WAC opponents this season.
  • The Redhawks are 4-0 against New Mexico State at the WAC Tournament over the last three years.
