SEATTLE – Seattle University Athletics has rounded out its development staff with the hiring of Al Grigsby as Assistant Athletic Director for Development, Associate AD for Development Lindsey Scott-Anderson announced Monday.
"I am thrilled to have Al Grigsby join our team," said Scott-Anderson. "As a decorated former college student athlete, he understands first-hand the impact of sport on a young person's life. His professional and athletics experience will have an incredible impact in our Redhawk community."
Grigsby joined the Seattle U men's basketball staff as Assistant to the Head Coach in September 2021.
Prior to that, he spent the better part of the last two decades working as a sales and business development executive for Bioved Pharmaceuticals, Inc. He spearheaded innovative business development initiatives with a specific focus on identifying international marketing and distribution partnerships in the Asia Pacific region for key product lines, and managed prospecting, due diligence, licensing, product registration, trademarking, marketing, manufacturing and distribution of three product lines, valued up to $1M.
"Coaching has been a tremendous experience and opportunity for me, but I feel I can do so much more to contribute to Seattle University, a place that has done and will continue to do so much for all current and future student athletes," said Grigsby. "I look forward to helping the team continue to grow our development programs and give our students the opportunity to be successful athletes and people."
Grigsby's previous coaching experience includes being on staff with the women's basketball team at Mission College from 2004-05 and the men's basketball staff at Gavilan College from 2006-07. He has also served as a coach and mentor with West Valley Basketball Club from 2002-20, where, in addition to coaching, his duties included developing fundraising programs to support underprivileged youth and community outreach.
Grigsby played basketball at Cal in the 1990s, helping the Bears advance to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 twice, then went on to play professional basketball in Japan from 1997-2002. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies from University of California, Berkeley.
