BELLEVUE - Seattle U baseball was able to shutdown a late rally by Portland to pickup the victory, 9-8, Friday night at Bannerwood Park.
After falling behind 0-2 after the first three innings, the Redhawks stormed back with a big fourth inning. Jackson Lind scored on a wild pitch to give SU their first run. The Redhawks would then load the bases with a sac fly by Aidan Welch bringing in the second run. A Kyle Sherick single would then bring in another two, with the Redhawks now leading 4-2.
The offense kept their hot form over the next two innings, with four more scored in the fifth and another in the sixth. Three of those runs were driven in by Welch, who had a double in the fifth and a single in the sixth to wrap up his four RBI night.
Alex McBee was able to continue the trend of Redhawk pitchers getting their first win of the season out of the bullpen, as he went two innings of shutout ball. Gabe Smith also achieved a first, getting credited with the save when he got the final three outs and thwarted a comeback attempt by the Pilots.
The win evened the season series with Portland at one game apiece, with tomorrow's matchup being decider. The Redhawks also improved to 12-25 on the season and 8-9 at the confines of Bannerwood Park.
Tommorow's game will feature Bark in the Park, a chance for fans to bring their favorite furry friend while also raising awareness for the Seattle Humane Society. First pitch will be at 11:00 AM as Nestor German will get the start on the mound for Seattle U.
