BOULDER CITY, Nev. - Seattle U men's golf travels to Boulder City, Nevada, on Friday to compete in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championships at Boulder Creek Golf Club. The three-day, 54 hole event will be held from Apr. 29-May 1 on 7,482 yards course with a par of 72.
Joining this year's event are WAC newcomers Lamar, Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin, while 2021 WAC Champions New Mexico State, along with Chicago State, Grand Canyon, Utah Valley and UTRGV all return for another year. California Baptist and Dixie State are ineligible for the team title due to the transition to NCAA Division I but will have individuals competing for medalist honors.
The Redhawks have enjoyed a solid season to this point, finishing in the top-five at two tournaments. Their best team performance came at the Orange County Classic when seniors Nathan Cogswell and Jack Rahon tied for second with three-round totals of 219. Another fourth place finish occurred at the shortened Redhawk Invitational where Seattle U posted a team score of 13-over 297, converting the third most birdies (13) and finishing tied for second in par three scoring (3.20) and par five scoring (4.80).
Seattle U's lineup will consist of seniors Nathan Cogswell, Harrison Murphy and Jack Rahon, sophomore Blake Kukula and freshman Liam Gill.
The 2021-22 two-time WAC Golfer of the Week, Jack Rahon has demonstrated his skill this season. The Orange, Calif., native opened the season with one of his best performances at the Husky Invitational, finishing fourth overall with a three-round total of seven-under 209 (68-68-73). His best overall finish came at the Orange County Classic where he tied for second overall and led the field in par four scoring average (3.90). The senior currently holds the program's best single season par four scoring average (4.1013) and third all-time overall scoring average of (72.80).
The 2020-21 All-WAC First Team member, Nathan Cogswell earned three WAC Golfer of the Week awards this season. The native of Kent, Wash., finished in the top-five at three tournaments with his best performance coming at the Redhawk Invitational, earning second place out of 120 golfers after a one-under 70 round. His other notable performance this season came at the Oregon State Invitational where he finished with a two-under 211 (70-70-71), tying for fourth place overall. The senior currently holds the fourth best single season par three (3.1477) and par five (4.7467) scoring average in school history.
Liam Gill is playing some of his best golf at the right time. The Wayland, Mass., native posted his second highest placement and was one stroke off his season low round of 71 in round one last week at the El Macero Classic. His best overall finish came at the Orange County Classic, tying for 21st place with a three-round total of 226 (79-71-76).
Harrison Murphy is playing some of the best golf of his collegiate career, finishing in the top-20 in his last two tournaments. The native of McKinney, Tex., started his run of strong play at the Redhawk Invitational, tying for 15th place after a three-over 74 round. Murphy then followed up that performance with a career best finish, tying for seventh overall at four-under 212 (71-74-67) at the El Macero Classic and earning WAC Golfer of the Week honors. He posted a career low round of four-under 67 in the final round to move up 16 spots and finished the event tied for third in par three scoring (one-under) and average (2.92).
Blake Kukula has been a consistent member in the Redhawks lineup all season long, competing in all ten tournament. The Ocean Park, Wash., native posted his highest overall finish at the Oregon State Invitational, tying for 13th overall with a three-round total of one-over 214 (73-72-69).
