Stipic, Worn Earn Victories in Loss to GCU

BEAUMONT, Texas - Seattle U men's tennis opened its second Western Athletic Conference (WAC) cluster of the season in Beaumont, Texas, against Grand Canyon in a neutral site match at the Thompson Family Tennis Center. Despite doubles and singles victories from sophomore Julian Worn, GCU came away with a 5-2 victory.

BEAUMONT, Texas - Seattle U men's tennis opened its second Western Athletic Conference (WAC) cluster of the season in Beaumont, Texas, against Grand Canyon in a neutral site match at the Thompson Family Tennis Center. Despite doubles and singles victories from sophomore Julian Worn, GCU came away with a 5-2 victory. 

Worn paired with freshman Veselin Kiselkov (6-2) to earn their sixth victory as a pairing over Mariano Argote and Martim Marujo but the Redhawks were unable to take the doubles point. freshman Michael Frank and junior Lars Schmassmann (1-6) teamed up for the first time this season against Jiri Novak and Loic Van Zeggelaar, while freshman Oliver Hall and Filip Stipic (2-6) faced off against Freddie Grant and Adrien Coulome. 

In singles play, Worn (6-2, 6-3) earned his seventh victory of the season over Novak on court one, while Stipic (7-6, 6-4) picked up his team leading 11th victory of the season against Argote. Frank (6-7, 2-6) took on Marujo on court four, while Kiselkov (5-7, 6-3, 0-1 (6-10)) batted against Grant and Schmassmann (5-7, 2-6) fell to Van Zegelaaar. Hall rounds out the singles match as he dropped his match against Stan De Samucewicz 5-7, 1-6 on court six. 

The Redhawks conclude their second WAC cluster on Saturday at 7 a.m. pacific time against New Mexico State in the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
