LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Seattle U men's tennis began its two day stay in Las Vegas, Nevada, Saturday against UNLV at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. Despite victories in doubles and singles play from freshman Filip Stipic, the Rebels would prevail, 4-3.
Freshman Oliver Hall and Stipic (6-2) did everything they could to claim the doubles point, earning their third victory as a duo over Jack Hambrook and Anton Ornberg. UNLV would go on to take the doubles point as sophomore Julian Worn and freshman Veselin Kiselkov (4-6) teamed up agasint Zac Brodney and Milos Dabic, while sophomore Mats Krause and freshman Michael Frank (2-6) faced off against Christopher Bulus and Zach Garner.
In singles play, junior Lars Schmassmann (6-0, 6-0) tied the match at one after dominating against Hambrook on court six. The Rebels would go on to win the next three matches as Worn (4-6, 2-6) fell against 76th ranked Bulus, while Kiselkov (0-6, 4-6) battled against Dabic and Krause (2-6, 3-6) squared off against Navarro. The Redhawks would claim the last two singles matches as Stipic was awarded the victory on court two over Jason Sauer as he retired in the third set and Frank (6-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7)) defeated Jackson Atherton to earn his ninth singles victory on the campaign.
The Redhawks conclude their Las Vegas trip with a neutral site match against DePaul, starting at 10 a.m. at the Fertitta Tennis Complex tomorrow.
