LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Seattle U men's tennis concluded its two-day trip to Las Vegas, Nevada, Sunday with a neutral site match against DePaul at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. The Redhawks started the match off strong in doubles play but were unable to take that momentum into singles action, falling 1-6, to the Blue Demons.
Seattle U opened the match by claiming the doubles point. Sophomore Julian Worn and freshman Veselin Kiselkov (6-3) paired up against Vito Tonejc and Marino Jakic on court one, earning their fifth victory as a pairing. Freshman Filip Stipic and Oliver Hall secured the doubles point on court three, defeating Tripp Tuff and Jona Gitschel, 6-3. The remaining doubles match went unfinished as The Redhawks had already won the point.
In singles play, the Blue Demons demonstrated their strength. Worn (5-7, 4-6) faced off against Tonejc, while Stipic (3-6, 4-6) batted against Jakic and Kiselkov (6-2, 4-6, 2-6) went to three sets against Leon Huck. Freshman Michael Frank (4-6, 1-6) dropped his match against Lars Peder Minsaas, while sophomore Mats Krause (6-7 (10-12), 0-6) fell to Luuk Wassenaar and Hall rounds out the singles matches, falling to Tuff in identical sets of 2-6, 2-6.
Seattle U opens Western Athletic Conference (WAC) play next weekend in Las Cruces, New Mexico, against WAC newcomers, Lamar and Abilene Christian, on Friday and Saturday respectively.
