LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Darrion Trammell sparked a second-half run to bring the Redhawks within striking distance of NM State Saturday afternoon in the Pan American Center, but Seattle U did not get the balanced offense that has led them to success this season, ultimately falling, 79-64, to the Aggies.

In a battle for sole possession of first place in the Western Athletic Conference standings at the midpoint of the season, NM State prevailed for the 31st straight time in league action on their home court, moving to 19-3 overall, 9-1 in the WAC. Seattle U moves to 17-6 on the season, 8-2 in WAC play.

Trammell finished the night with 26 points, including 17 in the second half as he looked to will the Redhawks back into the game. Riley Grigsby chipped in 10 but no other Redhawk reached double figures.

Following a 15-minute tip-off delay due to the arena lights not coming back on from pregame activities, the Aggies opened on fire. They jumped out to an 8-0 lead and hit better than 55 percent for the frame on their way to a comfortable 40-28 lead at the break.

For a second straight game, the Redhawks could not find offensive flow early, hitting at just a 33 percent clip in the first half, including 2-of-14 from three.

The struggles continued through the start of the second half and NM State would balloon the lead to 19, 61-42, at the 10:37 mark.

Seattle U would slowly chip into the lead, before using a 7-0 run, including four points from Trammell and an Emeka Udenyi and-1, to pull within seven, 68-61, with 4:39 to play. But the Redhawks would go without a field goal the remainder of the night as the Aggies secured the win.

Teddy Allen led NMSU with 33 points and 11 rebounds. Johnny McCants added 12 points and 12 boards while Yuat Alok chipped in 11.

While the two sides finished nearly identical from the field and from deep, the Aggies earned the advantage at the free-throw line, hitting 24-of-36 to Seattle U's 12-of-14 from the charity stripe.

The Redhawks return to Seattle to host a pair of WAC contests next week. First up is a meeting with UTRGV on Thursday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. at Climate Pledge Arena. Tickets are available online at goseattleu.com/tix or by calling the box office at 206-398-GOSU.
