SEATTLE – A deluge of three pointers was just a part of a complete Seattle U offense in the 69-61 win over Dixie State on Senior Day. Seattle U jumped out to a 15-point lead after one quarter and never trailed in the game.
The Redhawks shot 47% from the field and 38% from deep, making a season-high 11 three pointers. That included five in the first quarter alone, with Courtney Murphy scoring nine of her 12 points in that frame. Bree Calhoun also had eight points in the first quarter en route to a 19-point performance.
"The first quarter of the game on Senior Day can go either way and today we busted out of gates and held on for a win for the seniors and the program," said Suzy Barcomb. "It was awesome to have all the contributions from all our seniors today."
Seattle U started the game on an 11-0 run, making four of its first five shots. The Redhawks would assist on eight of nine baskets in the first quarter and on 18 of 25 in the game.
"We shared the ball well and made some key free throws down the stretch," said Barcomb.
Dixie State cut it to a three-point game with six minutes to go in the game. The Redhawk defense shut down the Trailblazers from there: Dixie State did not make a field goal the rest of the game, scoring just seven points, all at the free throw line.
The final home game of the regular season will be on the road, with the Redhawks facing Chicago State on Saturday, March 5 at 11:00 am PT.
