CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – The Seattle U Redhawks had the bats working in a 5-1 win over San Diego before falling 8-0 to #9 Oregon.
Tai Wilson and Lily Garcia all had big days in the doubleheader. Those two combined for seven hits across the two games, rolling over the order and putting runners on base routinely for the heart of the order.
In the circle, both Stefanie Madrigal and Carley Nance were strong. Madrigal threw another complete game, allowing just one run, while Nance allowed only two earned runs in four innings against the #9 Ducks.
GAME ONE
Striking early was the name of the game for the Redhawks against San Diego in the 5-1 win. Seattle U scored two runs in the first inning, with the first two batters of the game reaching safely. Seattle U's leadoff batter would reach safely in each of the first four innings.
The duo of Wilson atop the lineup and Garcia in the nine-hole keyed the offense. Those two were nearly perfect on the day, with Wilson going 3-for-4 with a walk and Garcia going 3-for-3 with two RBI doubles. Madokoro worked four walks in four plate appearances as well.
Madrigal was nigh unhittable in the circle. San Diego managed to load the bases in the first inning: Madrigal retired 17 of the next 18 batters she faced, only allowing three other baserunners all game long. San Diego was unable to push another runner into scoring position until the seventh inning and only scored with two outs in the seventh.
GAME ONE SCORING
The best scoring chance of the game came early for the Redhawks, putting two runners on base in the first inning. Madison Kahwaty singled, followed by a Carley Nance walk, but the duo were stranded.
Garcia also kept her hot day going, recording another hit to make it four hits in five at-bats across the two games today.
Nance struck out four batters in four innings of work in the circle, allowing only two earned runs.

- Seventh Inning: The Toreros did not score until the final frame, getting one run on a double steal attempt.

- Third Inning: The Redhawks nearly escaped a jam with two runners aboard, only for a two-out triple to make it 3-0.
- Fourth Inning: An RBI groundout extended the Oregon lead to 4-0.
- Fifth Inning: Back-to-back doubles from Oregon started an inning that ended with the Ducks scoring four runs and making it 8-0.
- Wilson (3x7, R, 2B, RBI) is the first Redhawk freshman with a three-hit game since Olivia Viggiano on May 3, 2019.
- Wilson already has the most steals by a freshman since Viggiano's 20 in 2019.
- Madokoro (0x2, 2 R, 4 BB) has already set a new single-season career high in walks, accomplished in 33 fewer games than last season.
- Garcia (4x5, R, 2 2B, 2 RBI) had her first career three-hit game and first career multi-double game.
