CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – The Seattle U Redhawks finished the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic with aplomb, beating the UC Riverside Highlanders 10-5. It was another huge day from Lily Garcia that proved vital for the Redhawks: the junior hit her first career home run and added her second career triple in the win.
Garcia was one of five Redhawks with a multi-hit game, including the first multi-hit game of Jasmine Wehn's career. Kalyn Hill drove in three runs and scored twice, recording one of Seattle U's six extra-base hits in the game. Madison Kahwaty homered, her third homer this season.
Stefanie Madrigal retired the first ten batters she faced in an excellent four innings of work before ceding the circle to Carley Nance. Nance would allow just two runs over the final three innings of work to earn the save, the sixth of her career and second this year.
The Redhawks used a pair of big innings to get the win, scoring in double figures for the second time this year. Seattle U scored four times in the third then, after UC Riverside cut it to a one-run game, scored five in the bottom of the fifth. Nine batters came to the plate in the fifth for Seattle U.
