OREM, Utah – Seattle U men's basketball never found its stride Thursday night in the UCCU Center, suffering season lows in points and shooting percentage as Utah Valley pulled away for a 67-52 final.
The Redhawks move to 21-8 on the season and 12-4 in Western Athletic Conference play. The Wolverines improve to 18-9 overall and 9-6 in the WAC.
Utah Valley opened the game hot, hitting 3-of-4 to start, while the Redhawks got a bucket from Emeka Udenyi early, but would go 1-of-6 early.
The Wolverines cooled as the period went on and both teams suffered long scoreless spells as 23 total fouls were called in the first half. A flurry of threes, two by UVU and one by Vasja Pandža closed out the half and the Redhawks went into the break trailing 28-24.
Darrion Trammell sparked an 8-0 run to open the second half, hitting back-to-back threes off of UVU turnovers. A Udenyi layup capped the run and gave Seattle U its first lead of the night, 32-31, with 17:03 to play. But the Wolverines responded with a 12-2 run to open up a 43-34 advantage.
Kobe Williamson would briefly cut the spread down to six with a three from the top of the key, but UVU pushed the spread back to double digits where it would stay for the remainder of the night.
Trammell had 11 points to lead the Redhawks. Riley Grigsby added 10, while Udenyi and Williamson chipped in eight apiece.
UVU was paced by Fardaws Aimaq's 19-point, 18-rebound double double. Justin Harmon joined him in double figures with 17 points.
Seattle U will look to regather on Saturday, traveling down I-15 to St. George, Utah for a 7 p.m. tip-off at Dixie State. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and can be heard on the airwaves on KXSU 102.1 FM in Seattle and kxsu.org.
