ABOUT THE SERIES VS UTAH VALLEY
Seattle U and Utah Valley are meeting for the 23rd time, with the Redhawks holding a slim 12-11 all-time edge. Seattle U won this season's first meeting, 71-65, at Climate Pledge Arena. The Redhawks trailed 32-23 at the half, then rallied with a big second half to claim the victory. Cameron Tyson and Darrion Trammell combined for 45 points in the win.

The previous two games went to overtime, including a 93-92 win for the Wolverines in the lone meeting last season. The game took nearly 2:40 and featured 16 ties, 14 lead changes, 58 fouls and 81 free-throw attempts. Four players fouled out of the game, including Darrion Trammell and Riley Grigsby for the Redhawks. With Seattle U leading 92-90, UVU's Trey Woodbury would score the game-winning bucket – a three from the top of the key.

Seattle U swept the home-and-home WAC series in 2019-20 including a runaway 83-50 victory in the Redhawk Center on Jan. 11, 2020.  Riley Grigsby led SU with 17 points, Delante Jones had 13 and Terrell Brown had 12 as 10 total Redhawks scored in the win. On Feb. 8, 2020 in Orem, the end result was the same, but this time it took extra time and a game-winning runner from Morgan Means to seal the road win for the Redhawks. Terrell Brown led all scorers with 28 points and Means finished with 19. UVU swept the home-and-home series in 2018-19, winning, 88-78 in Orem and 77-68 in Seattle. The teams split the home-and-home series during the previous two seasons, each winning on their home court.

BEST FIRST SEASON AT THE HELM
As Interim Head Coach Chris Victor leads the Redhawks through program's 15th 20-win season, he has entered elite territory among Seattle U coaches who have achieved the feat in their first season. Just four other coaches in Seattle U history have reached or surpassed 20 wins in their first season at the helm:

  • 22 wins - John Castellani, 1956-57, 22-3
  • 22 wins - Bob Boyd , 1963-64, 22-6
  • 21 wins - Vincent Cazzetta, 1958-59, 21-6
  • 21 wins - Chris Victor, 2021-22, 21-7 (thru games on 2/21/22)
  • 20 wins - Jim Hayford, 2017-18, 20-14

TYSON FOR THREE

  • Cameron Tyson drained nine three pointers on Feb. 16 at UTRGV, matching the Seattle U single-game record. The feat was previously achieved first by Aaron Waite on Jan. 6, 1990 versus Alaska Pacific, then matched by Bernard Seals on Mar. 3, 2005 versus Western Washington.
  • With 95 made threes through 28 games, Cameron Tyson is 3rd on Seattle U's single-season top-10 list for single season three pointers.
  • Tyson now trails only Isiah Umipig who holds the top two single-season records.
  • Umipig drained 106 threes in 2013-14, then followed with 123 threes in 2014-15.
  • Tyson's personal single-game record is 10, set last season against Our Lady of the Lake while playing for University of Houston.

NEXT TO 1,000
While Riley Grigsby surpassed 1,000 career points on Jan. 28 versus Sam Houston, two more Redhawks have the milestone marker in eyesight. Cameron Tyson enters Seattle U's Feb. 24 game at Utah Valley with 960 career points during his NCAA DI collegiate career. Darrion Trammell follows with 922 career points.
