NEWBERG, Ore. - Seattle U men's tennis headed to Newberg, Oregon, for its first of two matches this weekend on Friday, taking on George Fox at the Multi-use facility. Despite victories in doubles and singles play from sophomore Mats Krause and freshman Michael Frank, the Bruins would finish on top, 4-3.
Frank and Krause (6-3) did everything they could to claim the doubles point, earning their fourth straight victory as a duo over Rox Rogers and Luis Rojas. GFUM would go on to win the doubles point as freshman Veselin Kiselkov and Filip Stipic (4-6) dropped their match against William Leach and Luke Lemaitre, while fellow freshman Oliver Hall and Jayden Harrison (5-7) narrowly fell to Camden Camacho and Vahag Pashayan.
In singles play, Krause immediately tied the score at 1-1 with his victory over Rojas, 6-3, 6-2. Stipic (6-7 (4-7) 4-6) battled against Leach, while Frank earned his seventh victory of the season over Rogers, tying the dual match at two. Kiselkov fell to Lemaitre in identical sets of 4-6, 4-6, before junior Lars Schmassmann (3-6, 6-3, 7-5) tied the match for the final time with his victory over Pashayan. Harrison (3-6, 3-6) was unable to defeat Camacho, sending the Bruins home with the dual victory.
Seattle U will conclude the weekend against Pacific Saturday at 11 a.m. in Forest Grove, Oregon, at the Holce Tennis Courts.
