FOLLOW THE REDHAWKS

QUICK HITS

  • Behind 21 three pointers and 50 percent FG shooting, Seattle U rolled to a 102-62 win at UTRGV Wednesday.
  • The win moved the Redhawks to 20-6 on the season and 11-2 in WAC play, good for a tie for first with NM State in the league standings.
  • Seattle U has 20 wins for the 15th time in program history and the first time since 2017-18.
  • The Redhawks hit the 20-win marker in just 26 games, marking the fewest games it's taken to reach the feat since the 1963-64 Seattle U team did so in 25 games.
  • The 20-6 record through the season's first 26 games remains the best mark for a Seattle U team since the 1963-64 season. That team went 19-4 before losing a fifth time, and ultimately finished 22-6.
  • Cameron Tyson poured in a school-record tying nine three pointers and finished with 30 points in the win at UTRGV.
  • Darrion Trammell added 19 points and eight assists, Kobe Williamson had 11 points and Riley Grigsby added 10.
  • The Redhawks dished 31 assists on 38 field goals. The 31 assists were the most in a game since Feb. 18, 2006 when Seattle U matched that feat in a 91-75 win at Saint Martin's.
  • The 102 points scored is the most against a DI opponent since Nov. 18, 2017 when Seattle U scored 102 in a win over Detroit Mercy.
  • The 21 three-pointers is the most since draining 17 threes on Dec. 30, 2017 against UC Riverside, and be believed to be a program record for a single game.

ABOUT THE SERIES VS CALIFORNIA BAPTIST
This marks just the 10th all-time meeting between Seattle U and California Baptist as the Redhawks look to even the all-time series. While the Lancers  hold the edge in the overall record, and one three of the first four modern-day meetings, the Redhawks have won three of the last four, including two-of-three last year and this season's first meeting. On Jan. 17 in Riverside, Calif., Riley Grigsby drained a three to send the game into overtime and Seattle U used a 13-0 run to dominate the extra frame and earn its third win on CBU's home court. The teams' only previous meeting came during the 1987-88 season at the Hawaii Loa Tournament in Kaneohe, Hawaii. The Lancers won that battle, 71-66, over Seattle U.

BEST FIRST SEASON AT THE HELM
As Interim Head Coach Chris Victor leads the Redhawks to the program's 15th 20-win season, he enter elite territory among Seattle U coaches who have achieved the feat in their first season. Just four other coaches in Seattle U history have reached or surpassed 20 wins in their first season at the helm:

TYSON FOR THREE

  • Cameron Tyson drained nine three pointers on Wednesday at UTRGV, matching the Seattle U single-game record. The feat was previously achieved first by Aaron Waite on Jan. 6, 1990 versus Alaska Pacific, then matched by Bernard Seals on Mar. 3, 2005 versus Western Washington.
  • With 91 made threes through 25 games, Cameron Tyson is tied for 3rd on Seattle U's single-season top-10 list for single season three pointers.
  • Tyson now trails only Isiah Umipig who holds the top two single-season records.
  • Umipig drained 106 threes in 2013-14, then followed with 123 threes in 2014-15.
  • Tyson's personal single-game record is 10, set last season against Our Lady of the Lake while playing for University of Houston.

NEXT TO 1,000
While Riley Grigsby surpassed 1,000 career points on Jan. 28 versus Sam Houston, two more Redhawks have the milestone marker in eyesight. Cameron Tyson enters Seattle U's Feb. 19 game vs. California Baptist with 948 career points during his NCAA DI collegiate career. Darrion Trammell follows with 876 career points.
