Men's Tennis Sweeps WAC Athlete of the Week Awards

Seattle U sophomore Julian Worn and freshman Veselin Kiselkov and Filip Stipic have been named as the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Men's Tennis Athletes of the Week for ?, the WAC announced on Wednesday.

DENVER, Colo. - Seattle U sophomore Julian Worn and freshman Veselin Kiselkov and Filip Stipic have been named as the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Men's Tennis Athletes of the Week, the WAC announced on Wednesday. 

"This is a great achievement for Filip, Julian and Veselin," said Head Coach Kristina Hollander. "It demonstrates their hard work and commitment to the sport. I am really proud of all of them."

Stipic earned singles Players of the Week honors while, the paring of Kiselkov and Worn claimed doubles Team of the Week accolades. 

Stipic enjoyed a successful weekend in singles play, going undefeated in three matches. The Subotica, Serbia native started the weekend with a dominate win over Lewis-Clark State's Itaru Kikuchi, 6-1, 6-0, before a three set battle against Idaho's Bruno Casino, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6. He concluded the weekend with another strong performance against Eastern Washington's Wout Doumen, 6-1, 6-1. This is his first WAC weekly honor of the season and career.

The doubles team of Kiselkov and Worn has gotten off to a great start in dual play, winning three straight and improving their overall record to 4-2. They started the weekend with a dominate performance against Lewis-Clark State's Cade Edwards and Itaru Kikuchi, 6-2, before a close victory over Idaho's Francisco Bascon and Bruno Casino, 7-5. They finished the weekend against Eastern Washington's Wout Doumen and Erik Sarlvik, earning a 6-4 victory. 

This is Kiselkov's first WAC weekly honor of the season and career. For Worn, this marks his first WAC award of the season and second career WAC weekly doubles honor and third overall WAC weekly award. 

Seattle U will return to action against George Fox on Friday at 5 p.m. in the Multi-use facility on the campus of George Fox in Newberg, Oregon.
