DENVER, Colo. - Seattle U women's golf freshman Shanya Lu has been named Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Golfer of the Week, for the week of February 9-15, the WAC announced on Wednesday.
The Honolulu, Hawaii, native provided a strong presence in the Redhawks' lineup as she won all three of her matchups in the Mountain Classic Match Play. Lu started the tournament with a dominate victory over Cal Stat Bakersfield's Christy Mae Saban, 9&7, and continued her strong play into the semifinals, defeating Cal State Fullerton's Kayle Hunn, 5&4, in a match that was crucial for the Redhawks to advance to the finals.
Lu gave the Redhawks the early advantage in the finals, earning a standout victory over Boise State's Nicole Suppelsa, 7&6, in a 3-2 team victory that saw Seattle U win the team title.
For the freshman, this is her first WAC weekly honor of the season and career.
Seattle U continues the spring season on Feb. 28-Mar. 1, heading to Phoenix, Arizona, for the GCU Lopes Invitational at the GCU Golf Course.
