CHENEY, Wash. - Seattle U men's tennis finished off its three match weekend Sunday morning against Eastern Washington at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, Wash. SU clinched a shortened dual match victory, 4-1, after freshman Veselin Kiselkov (3-6, 6-2, 6-3) defeated Jeremy Mueller in three sets on court two.
"This was a great win for our team," said Volunteer Assitant Coach Jeff MacDoniels. "I am proud of the way we responded after trailing in each of the doubles and three of the singles matches. It was a great way to finish off a very strong road trip."
The Redhawks started the match by claiming the doubles point. Sophomore Julian Worn and Kiselkov (6-4) paired against Erik Sarlvik and Jeremy Mueller, while freshman Michael Frank and sophomore Mats Krause (7-5) clinched the doubles point after narrowly defeating Steven Paz and Mueller. Both doubles pairings won all three matches they competed in this weekend. Rounding out the doubles matches was freshman Oliver Hall and Filip Stipic (2-6) as they fell to Brady Thomas and Manuel Balce on court three.
In singles play, Stipic's (6-1, 6-1) match was the first to finish as he dominated in his match against Wout Doumen. Frank (0-6, 6-0, 6-4) followed with his sixth singles victory of the season, completing a three set comeback against Balce. Hall's (3-6, 6-7) match was the next result as he fell to Sarlvik but then Kiselkov's victory sealed the match. The remaining singles matches went unfinished as the Redhawks had already clinched the victory.
Both Kiselkov and Stipic won all three of their singles matches this weekend as the Redhawks conclude the weekend 2-1 after victories over Lewis-Clark State and Eastern Washington.
The Redhawks will travel to Oregon for two matches next weekend as they take on George Fox on Friday and then Pacific on Saturday.
