DENVER - The Western Athletic Conference announced Stefanie Madrigal as the Pitcher of the Week after the season's opening weekend. This is Madrigal's second career Pitcher of the Week award and first of the year, coming after the first weekend of the season.
Madrigal earned two wins for the Redhawks last week, throwing complete games in both her starts. Madrigal allowed just one run in each game, defeating Western Michigan and Bowling Green. She struck out five batters in six innings against Bowling Green. In all, Madrigal allowed just ten baserunners across 13 innings of work.
This is Madrigal's second career WAC Pitcher of the Week award. She joins Andie Larkins, Carley Nance, Shi Smith, and Alyssa Reuble as the only Redhawks to ever earn the award multiple times. Seattle U has had a pitcher earn Pitcher of the Week at least once in each of the last seven years.
Madrigal is the first Redhawk ever to earn Pitcher of the Week or Player of the Week for the first week of the season.
Seattle U will put its 5-0 record on the road this weekend, heading to Stanford for five games over three days. That weekend tournament will begin Friday, February 18 at 5:00 pm PT against Stanford.
