SEATTLE – Seattle U men's basketball extended its home win streak to seven straight as eight different players scored in a grind-it-out, 67-59 win over UTRGV Thursday night at Climate Pledge Arena.

The win snapped a two-game skid in Western Athletic Conference play as the Redhawks moved to 18-6 overall and 9-2 in league games, keeping pace in second place in the current standings. The Vaqueros dropped to 7-17 overall, 2-10 in the WAC.

It was a rough offensive night for both squads as they combined to make just 39 field goals while also combining for 52 fouls.

Cameron Tyson paced Seattle U with 13 points while Vasja Pandža had a solid performance off the bench, finishing with 11 points, four rebounds, two steals and two blocks. Darrion Trammell, Riley Grigsby and Brandton Chatfield all added eight points each. Grigsby led the Redhawks with nine boards, though all nine who saw action pulled in at least two.

"We had a lot of open looks for a lot of good shooters and we'll take those every game," said Interim Head Coach Chris Victor. "We're in a little bit of a funk right now. We've gotta figure out how to get through it offensively, but the good news is that we defended again and we won this game on the defensive end. We need to do a better job with foul discipline, but when we didn't foul we did a good job guarding the rim and a good job on the boards."

Seattle U scored first and never trailed by more than one point. The Redhawks closed out the first half on a 9-4 run to carry a 29-24 lead into the break. They would extend the lead to 11, 42-31, at the 12:52 mark of the second half.

A late game push by the Vaqueros cut the Seattle U lead down to just four with just 1:18 left to go. But Kyree Brown freed himself for an open three on the ensuing possession and the Redhawks held on.

The quick two-game homestand continues on Saturday as Seattle U returns to the Redhawk Center to host Lamar University. Tip-off between the Redhawks and Cardinals is scheduled for 1 p.m.
