BOZEMAN, Mont. - Seattle U men's tennis closed out its two day trip to Bozeman, Montana, with its first victory of the 2022 dual season. Freshman Michael Frank (5-7, 6-1, 7-5) clinched a Redhawks' 4-3 victory with his singles match win over Jonathan Evans on court five at the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center.
"I am very proud of our team today," said Head Coach Kristina Hollander. "Our players worked really hard and earned this win."
SU opened the match by claiming the doubles point. Frank paired with sophomore Mats Krause (7-5) for their second victory of the season over Volodymyr Zakharov and Ignacio Vinas, while the freshman duo of Veselin Kiselkov and Filip Stipic (7-6) won a close match against Andre Russo and Eli Brewer. Freshman Jayden Harrison and junior Lars Schmassmann were close to clinching the doubles sweep but fell, 6-7, to Evans and Kevin Leuenberger.
Kiselkov (6-2, 6-0) earned Seattle U's second point of the match in a dominate win over Eli Brewer, while Krause (2-6, 6-3, 6-4) completed his comeback against Leuenberger that made the score 3-1 to SU. Stipic (6-3, 4-6, 4-6) narrowly fell to Vinas on court two when Frank clinched the dual match victory on court five. Schmassmann (7-5, 3-6, 5-10) battled to three sets but eventually fell to Kyle Johnson and Zakharov was awarded the victory by default on court one against sophomore Julian Worn to round out the singles matches.
