BOZEMAN, Mont. - Seattle U men's tennis opened its two match weekend at the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center in Bozeman, Montana, Friday against Montana State. The 4-1 Bobcats came out hot and did not let up, winning 6-1 on their home courts.
Sophomore Julian Worn (7-5, 6-7, 6-4) earned Seattle U's lone singles point on the afternoon, defeating Matej Panik in a close three set match. Three other Redhawks were close to earning singles points as freshman Veselin Kiselkov (6-0, 5-7, 6-7) started off strong but fell off against Daan Van Dijk, while fellow freshman Filip Stipic (6-7, 6-0, 2-6) battled against Jamieson Nathan and sophomore Mats Krause (1-6, 7-6, 5-10) fell just short of completing a third set comeback against Nejc Sitar. Junior Lars Schmassman (4-6, 3-6) competed in two competitive sets against Joaquin Espinoza and freshman Michael Frank (1-6, 3-6) rounds out singles play as he faced off against Brad Buckland.
The Bobcats started off the match by claiming the doubles point. Worn was close to winning his doubles match with Kiselkov as they fell, 5-7, to Manuel Monteiro and Sitar. Senior Billy Givens-Jensen teamed up with Stipic (4-6) against Buckland and Nathan, while Krause and Frank (2-6) paired up against Panik and Van Dijk.
The Redhawks will end their weekend in Bozeman tomorrow against Oral Roberts, starting at 1 p.m. pacific time in the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center.
