OREM, Utah – A foul-heavy game saw the Seattle U Redhawks defeated by Utah Valley 51-65. The teams combined for 36 free throws, with Utah Valley going 20-for-22 at the line. The Redhawks worked the ball inside, scoring almost half their points in the paint, but shot just 17% from beyond the arc.

"We can only control us and our focus is on that," said Head Coach Suzy Barcomb. "We competed throughout but just couldn't get those critical buckets."

Seattle U took a team approach to the offense with leading scorer Bree Calhoun out as six different players had at least five points in the game. McKenzi Williams had ten points to lead the team, while Hailey Vice-Neat, Peyton Howard, and Courtney Murphy all scored seven.

Barbara Rangel made her second start of the year, putting up six points and five rebounds on 3-for-4 shooting and two blocks. Howard led the Redhawks with two steals to go along with her seven points and three assists.

The Redhawks tied it up early in the second quarter before a cold shooting stretch worked in Utah Valley's favor. A 15-2 run by the home team put the Redhawks behind at halftime, then a 12-0 run in the fourth stretched Utah Valley's lead.

Courtney Murphy was a part of Seattle U's third-quarter push, scoring five points and picking up a block and a steal in that quarter alone. Murphy was one of three Redhawks to record both a block and a steal, along with Williams and Howard.

Seattle U heads to Texas to play Stephen F. Austin on Thursday, January 27 next. The road trip will end with a game at Sam Houston State on Saturday, January 29.
