SEATTLE – The Seattle U Redhawks put together a valiant comeback but fell short in overtime, falling 56-57 to Tarleton on a layup with seven seconds left. The Redhawks put together a 9-0 run to end the fourth quarter and send the game to overtime, holding Tarleton State to zero points and six turnovers in the final four minutes of regulation.
Bree Calhoun turned the tide in overtime to give Seattle U the lead with 40 seconds to go. Calhoun made a layup, then got a steal just seconds later and scored again to give Seattle U the 56-55 lead. Calhoun would get another steal on the very next possession but the Redhawks were unable to build the lead before Tarleton's game winner.
It was a big day for Georgia Kehoe as well, who had her third career double-double as well as setting a new career high with five blocks. After going for 17 and 8 in Thursday's win over Abilene Christian, Kehoe had 10 and 11 today while passing Alexis Montgomery for fifth in Seattle U history in blocks.
The Redhawks shot 53% from the floor in the fourth quarter, outscoring Tarleton by seven to tie the game up. Courtney Murphy was pivotal, scoring eight points in the fourth quarter on perfect shooting, including five points during Seattle U's late 9-0 run.
The Redhawks had eight blocks and nine steals as a team, forcing 15 Tarleton turnovers. Calhoun, McKenzi Williams, Jadynn Alexander, and Peyton Howard all had multiple steals.
The Redhawks would also crash the glass to the tune of 18 offensive rebounds, their third-highest total of the season. It was the third straight game that Seattle U has outrebounded its opponent after doing so just four times in the season's first 13 games.
A busy week kicks off on the road Monday, with the Redhawks heading to Utah to play Utah Valley at 1:00 pm PT on January 24. Seattle U will also play at Stephen F. Austin on January 27 and at Sam Houston State on January 29.
