SEATTLE - Seattle U men's tennis opened the 2022 dual season Wednesday with a short drive across the city to take on Washington at the Lloyd Nordstrom Tennis Center. The Huskies started off the match hot and never let up, winning in a decisive 7-0 sweep on their home courts.
In singles play, freshman Veselin Kiselkov (2-6, 2-6) put together two competitive sets against third ranked Clement Chidekh, while fellow freshman Filip Stipic (3-6, 0-6) started off well but fell short to opponent Jack Davis. Freshman Michael Frank (2-6, 1-6) battled against Ewen Lumsden, sophomore Mats Krause (0-6, 2-6) faced off against Han-Chih Lin and junior Lars Schmassmann (1-6, 4-6) started off slow but performed better in the second set against Nedim Suko. Rounding out singles play was freshman Oliver Hall, who fell in identical sets of 1-6, 1-6 to Rikuto Yamaguchi.
UW opened the day by claiming the doubles point. Frank and Krause matched up with Davis and Lin, while freshman Jayden Harrison and Stipic battled against Chidekh and Suko and senior Billy Givens-Jensen teamed up with Hall against Lumsden and Yamaguchi. All doubles matches finished in a final score of 6-1 to Washington.
Seattle U will travel to Spokane for two matches this weekend as they take on Gonzaga at 11 a.m. on Friday and then Nevada at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
