SEATTLE - After an 11-match road trip, the Seattle U Redhawks return to Seattle for the first home match of the season. The Redhawks will host Chicago State on Thursday, September 23 at 6:00 pm PT. This will also be the WAC opener as Seattle U starts conference play. Seattle U last opened conference play at home in 2019, with a 0-3 loss to UTRGV. The Redhawks hosted Chicago State to start the 2018 WAC schedule, winning that match 3-0. This is the first of six home matches for the Redhawks this season.

HOME SWEET HOME

The Redhawks will be back at home for the first time this season, hosting Chicago State in Seattle U's home opener and first conference game. Since moving to Division I, Seattle U is 4-9 in home openers but 2-1 in the last three years. Seattle U is 13-1 all-time against Chicago State, including an undefeated 7-0 mark at home.

CARTER CAN KILL

Amaris Carter recorded 29 kills against Eastern Washington, just missing out on becoming the fourth Redhawk ever with 30 kills in a match. Carter set a new career high in kills midway through the third set. She would end just behind Kaytlyn Dill (31 kills, 9/20/12), Matea Mamic (30, 9/2/16) and Katarina Marinkovic (30, 10/27/16) in Seattle U history. That trio averaged 19 kills in their next match after reaching the 30-kill mark.

LENDING A HELPING HAND

Darian Goins set a new career high with 47 assists against Eastern Washington. That was 20 more assists than Goins' previous career high of 27, accomplished twice this season. Ezgi Ozkan was the last Redhawk to have more assists in a match, recording 55 in 2019. Goins' 216 assists on the season are ninth in the WAC.

AN ACE SERVING

Erin Goya now has 12 service aces this year after recording her third multi-ace game with two at Eastern Washington. Goya is third among freshman in the WAC in aces, trailing only Luanna Emiliano of UTRGV and Hannah Baker of Sam Houston State in that category.

DOUBLE DOUBLES ARE GOOD

Amaris Carter and Darian Goins each put up double-doubles at Eastern Washington. For Carter, it was the fifth of her career and second this season. Goins also has two this year: the last setter with more was Ezgi Ozkan, who had five double-doubles  in 2019.

CAN YOU DIG IT

Katlyn Sipes recorded her third straight double-digit dig game, picking up 15 against Eastern Washington. Sipes had 55 digs in her last three matches after picking up 69 digs in her first seven matches. The last Redhawk with more consecutive double-digit dig games was Tijana Milojevic, who did so in seven matches last season. The last freshman with more consecutive double-digit dig games was also Milojevic, who did so in 23 consecutive matches in 2017.

GOINS SO SNEAKY

In her first seven matches with Seattle U, Darian Goins had three kills and two errors. In the four matches since, Goins has nine kills and no errors, including five kills on seven attacks at Eastern Washington. Goins is hitting .370 on the season, the highest mark of any Redhawk with double-digit kills on the season.

BREAKING OFF A NEW HUNDO

Sierra Bartley reached the 100-kill mark on the season last weekend. Bartley has five double-digit kill matches this year, including three in her last four matches. Bartley has hit over .200 in seven of 11 matches this year and is second on the team in hitting percentage at .261. Only six players in the WAC have reached the 100-kill mark with a better hitting percentage.
