ST. GEORGE, Utah – Seattle University men's soccer scored two second-half goals to win, 2-0,
at Dixie State on Saturday afternoon. Munier Hussen and Habib Barry scored, while Akili Kasim made seven saves for his second shutout of the year in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) game.
The Redhawks (3-1-1, 2-1-1 WAC) were the better team for much of the day. It punished the Trailblazer backline with 21 shots as a SU used a variety of attacks to keep the hosts off balance.
In the 66th minute, a loose-ball scramble ended with a shot from Deniz Dogan. The try was blocked, but Hussen was on the left wing and smashed a shot into the back of the net for a 1-0 advantage.
SU put the game away in the 75th minute. Noe Meza dribbled into space on the right side and shot, where the DSU goalkeeper saved, but Edwin Aquino headed the rebounded back toward the goal line. Barry was on the spot and finished the play for a 2-0 margin.
Kasim totaled seven saves in net.
The Redhawks will play at Washington in a non-conference match on Wednesday. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. at UW.
