LAS VEGAS – A promising start against UNLV Wednesday night at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas could not be sustained by Seattle U men's basketball as the Runnin' Rebels used a blistering second half to pull away, 76-56, over the Redhawks.

Seattle U dropped to 7-3 on the season while UNLV moved to 5-5 in the designated neutral site game.

The Redhawks opened with a quick 8-0 run courtesy a Darrion Trammell layup and back-to-back threes from Riley Grigsby. UNLV would respond with a 13-0 run of its own and would go on to lead 20-13 midway through the frame.

Two consecutive Cameron Tyson triples cut the Rebel lead to one, but UNLV would stretch it back out to 1, 36-25, with 1:16 remaining in the half. Seattle U chipped away late as Kobe Williamson scored the final five points of the half to make it 36-30 at the break.

Tyson looked to get the Redhawks going again early in the second half, again hitting back-to-back threes for a 40-36 UNLV advantage. But Seattle U would manage just 31 percent shooting for the half while the Rebels got hot, hitting 16-of-24 from the field (67%) and 6-of-12 from deep to pull away.

Tyson finished with a team-high 14 points while Williamson added 13 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. Grigsby chipped in 10 points in limited minutes after managing just nine minutes in the first half due to foul trouble.

Michael Nuga led UNLV with a game-high 21 points. Bryce Hamilton added 18.

Both teams struggled from the free-throw line as the Redhawks finished just 4-for-8 while UNLV went 5-for-15. The Rebels held a 42-32 rebounding advantage.

The Redhawks return to Seattle for their final four games of the calendar year. The stretch begins Sunday with a 5 p.m. tip off against UC San Diego at Climate Pledge Arena.
