SEATTLE – Non-conference play closed out with a defensive masterpiece as the Seattle U Redhawks beat the Western Oregon Wolves 61-38. The Redhawks held Western Oregon to 23% shooting from the field and 18 turnovers while racking up a +20 rebounding margin.
 
The offense came from up and down the lineup, with 11 different Redhawks scoring, a season high. Courtney Murphy had 12 points to lead the team, going 4-for-5 in the second half as the Australian caught fire. Jadynn Alexander also hit double digits, scoring ten points to go along with six rebounds and two steals.
 
The Redhawks dominated the glass all game, outrebounding Western Oregon 54-20 and pickup up 16 offensive rebounds, their third showing of 15+ offensive rebounds this season. Six different Redhawks had at least five rebounds, led by Murphy and Bree Calhoun, who had seven each.

The lead grew early for Seattle U thanks to strong defense: the Redhawks held the Wolves to 19% shooting in the first half, with Western Oregon ending up with more turnovers (9) than field goals (6). That trend would continue in the second half: Seattle U forced nine turnovers in the final 20 mintues while allowing only eight makes from the field.
 
The Redhawks will be off for the rest of the week, returning to play with WAC competition. The conference slate begins on the road at New Mexico State on Thursday, December 30 at 5:00 pm PT.
 
NOTES
  • This was Jagger's first career start for the Redhawks. (career high in min: 20)
  • Alexander has scored 30 points in the last three games, including two double-digit performances.
  • Calhoun now has 14 rebounds in the last two games, her most in a two-game stretch since a career best 16 on February 19 and 20, 2021.
  • Taliyah Clark scored seven, her third-highest scoring output this year.
