SEATTLE – An early deficit proved too much to overcome as the Seattle U Redhawks lost to the Washington Huskies 59-77 Friday night. The Redhawks forced 19 turnovers and had 12 steals in the game, both their second-best totals of the year. Seattle U moves to 4-4 overall after the one-game homestand.
Three Redhawks hit double figures tonight, led by Bree Calhoun's 14. Calhoun also had four steals in the game, her third game this year with four or more steals. Jadynn Alexander led the way with five steals, a new collegiate career high for the grad student.
McKenzi Williams and Courtney Murphy each had 12 points, with Williams pouring in eight during a hot first quarter. Hailey Vice-Neat played 25 minutes in her third start of the year, scoring five points and recording two blocks.
The Redhawks played the Huskies fairly even after a hot shooting start from the visitors that saw Washington make six threes in the first quarter. Seattle U would outscore Washington in both the second and fourth quarters, including an 8-0 run in the second quarter that cut the game to eight. A 12-point deficit after the first quarter did in the Redhawks, however, despite the strong play down the stretch.
The Redhawks hit the road again next week, heading to Montana for two games. Seattle U will play Montana on Thursday, December 16 at 6:00 pm PT, then finish the weeked at Montana State on Saturday, December 18 at 1:00 pm PT.
