SEATTLE – Seattle University extended its string of academic excellence in institutional Graduation Success Rate (GSR), according to data released by the NCAA this week. As a department, the Redhawks compiled a 93 percent GSR, while eight teams tallied perfect scores in the metric.
SU has tallied at least a 93 percent in every report since 2008.
GSR data indicates the number of student athletes earning a degree within six years. The NCAA developed the GSR to more accurately assess the academic success of student athletes. The Graduation Success Rate includes transfer students and student athletes who leave in good academic standing, unlike the federal rate, which does not count transfers. The GSR also accounts for mid-year enrollees and is calculated for every sport.
The most recent Graduation Success Rates are based on the four entering freshmen classes in Division I from 2011 through 2014.
Men's basketball, women's basketball, women's cross country/track & field, women's rowing, men's golf, women's golf, softball and women's swimming each claimed perfect scores for the cohort. Twelve of 16 Redhawk programs were over 90 percent.
Men's golf has perfect scores in nine consecutive reports, while women's golf has seven straight. Women's cross country/track and field have a six-year streak at 100 percent. Women's basketball, rowing and women's swimming all repeat from last year.
