SEATTLE – Five players scored in double figures for a second straight game and Seattle U men's basketball secured its fifth straight win, defeating St. Thomas, 81-64, Saturday night at the Redhawk Center.
Darrion Trammell scored a season-high 18 points to go along with eight assists, Rip Economou tallied 14 points off the bench, Viktor Rajković had 12 points, Cameron Tyson added 11 and Riley Grigsby chipped in 10 for Seattle U, which moved to 6-1 on the season with its first five-game win streak since the 2018-19 season.
St. Thomas (3-4) came out of the gates quickly, building a five-point lead at the 17:28 mark. The Redhawks would quickly respond with a 10-0 run. There were only three lead changes in the first half and Seattle U would lead for 16 minutes.
Where the rest of the Redhawks struggled to find their shot early on, Trammell had the touch. The guard went 4-7 from the field, including 3-5 from three, as he had 14 to pace the team to a seven-point, 35-28 advantage heading into the break.
As has been the case early on this season, Seattle came out of the break with a tremendous run. They scored 13 unanswered at 17:34 in the half and built up a 17-point cushion over the Tommies.
The dominant second-half performance included a 31-9 rebounding advantage, including 11 offensive boards for 10 second-chance points. For the game, the Redhawks held a massive 51-26 edge on the boards. Seattle U went 6-of-10 from deep in the second frame, finishing with 13 threes on the night.
Riley Miller had a game-high 20 points for St. Thomas, while Parker Bjorklund and Anders Nelson also cracked double digit scoring nights.
Next up for Seattle U is a matchup with McNeese State on Wednesday, Dec. 1 at Climate Pledge Arena. Tip off between the Redhawks and Cowboys is set for 7 p.m.
