COUGAR CONNECTION
The Redhawks have a pair of connections to Washington State in redshirt freshman Brandton Chatfield and Director of Player Development Steven Shpreyregin. Chatfield, an Orofino, Idaho native, spent his first two collegiate seasons at Washington State, redshirting in 2019-20 and seeing action in seven games last year. Shpreyregin was a member of the Cougar squad from 2016-18 under then head coach Ernie Kent.
PRESEASON HONORS
Darrion Trammell was selected as the WAC Men's Basketball Preseason Player of the Year in a vote of the league's 13 head coaches. Also honored was Riley Grigsby, who joined Trammell on the Coaches' Preseason All-WAC First Team. Trammell earned a nod onto the Media Preseason All-WAC First Team. Trammell and Grigsby were a one-two punch for Seattle U last season, finishing first and second in the WAC in scoring at 20.5 ppg and 17.8 ppg, respectively. Trammell ranked in the top 50 nationally in eight categories, including points per game (19th), assists per game (33rd) and steals per game (38th). Grigsby earned WAC Player of the Week once, was a Preseason All-WAC selection and earned Second Team All-WAC honors to close out the year.
