SEATTLE - Seattle University men's soccer clinched a Western Athletic Conference (WAC) tournament berth with a 4-1 win over Chicago State Sunday afternoon. Levonte Johnson, Declan McGlynn, Noe Meza and Hal Uderitz scored in the WAC contest at Championship Field.
"It was a good win for us," said Head Coach Pete Fewing. "Chicago State is not an easy team to play against and seeing our guys be patient while also being urgent with their play was fun to watch. It was a good weekend all around."
Seattle U (11-7-0, 7-3-0 WAC) was dominate for the first 45 minutes as they scored three goals and outshot Chicago State, 9-0. SU's first goal came off the foot of McGlynn in the 24th minute as he fired a free kick past the CSU wall that left the keeper standing still. Johnson doubled the Redhawks' lead in the 34th minute after Campbell Strong intercepted the ball from a CSU defender and found Johnson in alone on goal. Uderitz made it three after scoring on the rebound of his own penalty kick in the 43rd minute.
In the second half, the Cougars fought back and earned themselves a goal in the 71st minute off of a header. Noe Meza scored the final goal of the afternoon in the 84th minute on a hard shot into the bottom right corner after Mo Mohamed worked hard to get him the ball.
Seattle U will honor nine seniors in its home finale against San Jose State on November 6, starting at 7 p.m. on Championship Field.
