DENVER – Seattle University men's soccer senior, Akili Kasim, has been named Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Defensive Player of the Week, for the period ending on November 7. Kasim's eight saves against San Jose State Saturday night helped preserve a Redhawks victory and the number 2 seed in the WAC tournament.
The Seattle native has been a crucial member of the Redhawks' defense this season, starting all 19 matches. He ranks second in the conference in saves (45) and save percentage (.818) to go along with the fourth highest goals against average (.91) and five shutouts. Seattle U is currently on a four match win streak thanks to Kasim's 19 saves. This is his fourth career WAC weekly honor and first of this season.
Kasim and the Redhawks will face off against the winner of Air Force and UTRGV in a WAC tournament semifinal matchup on Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m.
