NORCO, Calif. – Seattle University men's soccer fell in overtime, 2-1, at California Baptist on Thursday afternoon. Akili Kasim made six saves in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) contest at Silverlakes Soccer Complex.
Kasim made a pair of early stops and then Levonte Johnson and Habib Barry each put on strong shots that were denied by the CBU goalkeeper. The first half went by without a goal, as the Redhawks racked up five corner kicks in the frame.
In the 52nd minute, SU went on the attack and came up with a goal as CBU claimed an own goal to make it 1-0. Five minutes later, the hosts answered with an equalizer.
Neither team found a goal as the second frame rolled on. Kasim logged three saves and the match headed to overtime. The Lancers struck in the 97th minute to claim the conference contest.
SU outshot the Lancers, 18-16, and held an 8-5 advantage in corners on the day.
SU heads to Utah Valley for its next match. The WAC game is slated for a 6 p.m. Pacific kickoff on Saturday night.
