PHOENIX, Ariz. – Seattle University women's soccer fell at Grand Canyon, 1-0 in overtime, Sunday night. Jessica Berlin made five saves in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) contest at GCU Soccer Stadium.
Both defenses controlled play in the first 45 minutes. Jessica Berlin made three saves as the SU backline cleared away any potential threats in the first half. Sydney Carr put two shots on goal, but GCU turned away both tries and the sides went to the break even at 0.
In the second half, the teams searched for a goal, but neither side was able to find the back of the net. Berlin tallied another stop as the contest moved to extra time.
The Redhawks kept pressure on GCU early in OT, earning a pair of corner kicks and challenging the Lopes' backline. However, the hosts charged back and found the winning goal in the 95th minute.
Seattle U held a 14-12 advantage in shots on the night.
SU returns home next weekend. It hosts Dixie State on Friday, with kickoff slated for 7 p.m. at Championship Field.
