BLOCKY BALBOA
Julia Queiroz matched her career high with ten blocks against UTRGV, her second career double-digit block performance. The last different Redhawk to record ten or more blocks in a single match was Maja Stojanovic, who did so in 2017. Queiroz's performance also put her over 30 solo blocks in her career, passing Stojanovic for third in Seattle U history and putting her just two solo blocks behind Jordan Keller for second. Queiroz has 12 solo blocks this year, just the tenth double-digit solo block season in Seattle U history. Only three players (Martina Samadan twice, Stojanovic, Keller) have ever had more solo blocks in a season than Queiroz this year.
SIERRA BARTLEY IS PRETTY GOOD HERE ARE SOME REASONS
Sierra Bartley now has double-digit kills in four straight matches and five of the last six. That includes two 17-kill performances that set and matched her career high. In that six-match stretch, Bartley has 84 kills and just 20 errors, hitting over .250 in every match. Only three players in the WAC have more kills than Bartley while hitting higher than her .265 mark.
EZ-KILL OZKAN
Ezgi Ozkan had the second- and third-most kills of her career in two matches last weekend, with five against UTRGV and six at Lamar. Ozkan went without an error in both games as well. In fact, over the last four matches, Ozkan has 18 kills and just one error. Only once this year has Ozkan had more than one error in a match. She has hit .300 or better in four straight, all from the setter position.
HOT DIGGITY
Kylie Waters matched her career high in digs against UTRGV last weekend, then broke that career high the very next match, against Lamar. Waters has double-digit digts in four consecutive matches now, topping off at 18 digs against Lamar. The sophomore needs just 12 more digs to record her first 150-dig season. Waters has seven double-digit dig games this year after recording two such matches as a freshman.
200 IS THE NEW 20
Katlyn Sipes broke the 200-dig mark last weekend, becoming the first Redhawk freshman with 200+ digs in a single season since 2017, when Tijana Milojevic had 504 digs. Sipes has 5+ digs in every match this year and has nine total double-digit dig matches. Her 3.04 digs per set is the ninth-best mark in Seattle U history. Milojevic is the only Redhawk in the last five years to record a high digs-per-set mark.
MOVING UP THE RANKINGS
Eve Kerschenbaum now has 149 kills and the season and is closing in on Seattle U's top-five all-time. Kerschenbaum needs just 19 more kills to tie Libby Graff for sixth in Seattle U history. Kerschenbaum's 149 kills this year are the second-most in her career, behind only 2019's 401 kills in 116 sets.
