SEATTLE – Seattle University men's soccer held off UNLV, 2-0, on Friday night. Hal Uderitz and Levonte Johnson scored and Akili Kasim tied a career high with nine saves in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) match at Championship Field.

"Akili and Hal were terrific tonight," said SU Coach Pete Fewing. "UNLV is a good team and this is a good win for us. Glad to have a home shutout. I thought our bench contributed tonight as well."

The Rebels tested Kasim and the SU backline throughout the contest, but the Redhawks had all the answers in the WAC home opener. Kasim collected saves on shots from near and far, flexing his reactionary skills to pick up his third shutout of the season.

Late in the first half, Habib Barry went on the attack and was brought down in the box. Uderitz stepped forward and calmly lined a shot in on the lower right side for a 1-0 difference in the 31st minute.

Kasim and the Seattle U defense handled the rest, wiping away any Rebel chances before Johnson finished on a breakaway in the final moments of the match.

SU hosts Dixie State in a conference contest on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Championship Field.
