Four Redhawks Advance on First Day of PNW Invitational

NEWBERG, Ore. - Seattle U men's tennis had four athletes take home victories in their opening match at the PNW Invitational, hosted by George Fox, at the Multi-Use Facility in Newberg, Ore.

NEWBERG, Ore. - Seattle U men's tennis had four athletes take home victories in their opening match at the PNW Invitational, hosted by George Fox, at the Multi-Use Facility in Newberg, Ore. 

In Singles A bracket, freshman Veselin Kiselkov (6-7, 6-4, 10-8) and Filip Stipic (4-6, 6-1, 13-11) both won very close matches against their respective opponents of Portland State's Nils Plulat and George Fox's Rox Rogers via a superset point, while bracket B saw sophomore Mats Krause (6-7, 6-4, 10-1) claim the victory over Pacific's Koby Murata after dropping the opening set and freshman Michael Frank defeated Pacific's Joey Hu in identical sets of 6-2, 6-2.

Doubles play saw the Redhawk's pairing of freshman Oliver Hall and senior Billy Givens-Jensen win two consecutive matches in doubles bracket B. First they matched up against Pacific's Cooper Rich and Matt Weiler, winning 6-3, and concluded the afternoon with a identical 6-3 victory against George Fox's Hunter Fujimori and Alle Banna. Also in doubles B draw, junior Lars Schmassmann and senior Juan Pablo Jaramillo defeated Portland State's Oliver Richards and Vu, 6-4, before falling to Idaho's Vivek Ramesh and Alex Asenov, 2-6. Hall and Givens-Jensen will battle with Ramesh and Asenov tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. for the championship in the doubles B bracket.

Sophomore George Miller also competed in doubles B bracket with George Fox's Jackson Whittaker. They dropped their first match to Idaho's Ramesh and Asenov, 5-7, but were able to capture the victory in their second match against Portland State's Richards and Vu, 6-4. 

Day two of the PNW Invitational will start at 8 a.m. tomorrow morning.
