SEATTLE – The Seattle U Redhawks dominated the second half but fell 2-1 to the Grand Canyon Antelopes Thursday night in the first game of a two-game homestand. Sydney Carr had the only goal for the Redhawks, coming off a beautiful long ball from Kait Raffensperger.

The loss puts Seattle U at 6-6-3 on the season with four regular-season games left to play.

The Redhawks entered the second half trailing 1-0, then proceeded to fire 11 shots to Grand Canyon's three in the final 45. Carr had seven shots on her own in the game, with six of those coming in the second half.

In all, Seattle U would outshoot Grand Canyon 14-11, putting four shots on net. Seattle U also managed eight corner kicks in the game, with five in the second half alone, while allowing just two corners for the Antelopes.

Hallie Bergford nearly put the Redhawks in the lead soon after Carr's tying goal. Bergford would redirect a cross toward net, beating the keeper but sending it wide of the frame.

A counterattack by Grand Canyon would make the difference. After an extended period of pressure from Seattle U, Grand Canyon managed to lift a long ball ahead and beat the defense back to take a 2-1 lead that would stand as the final margin.

The Redhawks have another home game coming up this weekend, hosting New Mexico State on Sunday, October 17 at 1:00 pm.
