DENVER, Colo. - Seattle U women's golf freshman Rivekka Jumagulova has been named Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Golfer of the Week, for the week of October 7-12, the WAC announced on Wednesday.
The Almaty, Kazakhstan, native captured her first collegiate win on Tuesday at the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational, hosted by Seattle U. Jumagulova was at her best in the final round, shooting a four-under par 68. She finished the tournament with a three round total of five-under 211 (70-73-68), winning by four strokes.
The freshman phenom set the Seattle U school record for lowest 54-hole total and finished first in made birdies at 14. She also led the field in par five scoring average and tied for first in par three scoring average.
This is Jumagulova's second WAC Golfer of the Week honor as she was also named the winner for the week of September 15-21 for her top three finish at the Gonzaga Invitational. Jumagulova's performance helped the Redhawks secure their first team victory of the season as they finished four strokes ahead of second-place Santa Clara.
Jumagulova and the Redhawks next tournament will take them to Boulder City, Nev., for the Clash at Boulder Creek, hosted by Northern Arizona from Oct. 24-26.
