SEATTLE – Seattle University women's soccer played Utah Valley to a 1-1 tie on Sunday afternoon. Leahi Manthei scored in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) game at Championship Field.

"I was impressed with my team's effort and adaptability today," said SU Coach Julie Woodward. "We changed formations and they played the new formations well. We created some scoring opportunities and were unlucky a bit in overtime. I'm proud of our team today."

The visitors put up the day's first goal, taking a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute. The Redhawks were ready with a quick response and tied the match 93 seconds later. Hallie Bergford gained possession with room to run on the left side. She dished ahead to Manthei, who fired from 20 yards out. Her shot deflected off a Wolverine defender and found the back of the net to make it 1-all. The teams entered the break deadlocked at 1.

Midway through the second half, SU put together a terrific build-up and nearly earned the payoff with a goal. Sydney Carr passed to Manthei, who found a dashing Bergford. Bergford just barely beat the UVU goalkeeper to the ball, but the Wolverine slowed the shot enough to keep the contest level.

A few minutes later, Jessica Berlin made her presence felt, keeping the visitors from scoring with a stellar diving save in the upper right corner.

Each side had moments as the second half continued, but neither team could take the lead.

Seattle U got the better of the first OT, but could not claim the winner. In the second extra session, Manthei had the best look, but UVU made the save and forced a draw.

Berlin finishes with six saves on the day.

SU welcomes GCU on Friday night. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Championship Field.
