NEWBERG, Ore. - Seattle U men's tennis will travel to Newberg, Ore., tomorrow to open its 2021-22 season at the PNW Invitational, hosted by George Fox. The event is scheduled to be held from October 1-3 at the Multi-Use Facility with start times of 2 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
The A singles draw will feature sophomore Julian Worn and freshman Veselin Kiselkov and Filip Stipic, while in the B singles draw, SU will send junior Lars Schmassmann, sophomore Mats Krause and freshman Michael Frank and Jayden Harrison. Senior Juan Pablo Jaramillo, sophomore George Miller and freshman Oliver Hall will represent Seattle U in the C singles bracket.
In the A doubles draw, Seattle U will pair Krause with Harrison, Stipic with Frank and Kiselov with Worn, while the B doubles draw features the pairings of Schmassman with Jaramillo and Hall with senior Billy Givens-Jensen. Miller will also be competing in the B doubles bracket but will be paired with George Fox's Jackson Whittaker. The tournament will include athletes from George Fox, Idaho, Pacific and Portland State.
SU welcomes five newcomers to the squad this season in freshman Michael Frank, Oliver Hall, Jayden Harrison, Veselin Kiselkov and Filip Stipic.
Frank, hails from Eisenstadt, Austria, where he achieved numerous accomplishments, such as being an Austrian Champion in singles and double at the U16 level, a two-time champion in doubles at the U18 level and has six ITF junior doubles tournament titles.
Hall joins from Wellington, New Zealand, where he was a grand finals winner from 2019-2021 and a team captain.
Harrison comes from Plymouth, New Zealand, where he was runner up at the New Zealand National Doubles Championships in 2016 and finished top-10 at the New Zealand Nationals in 2019.
Kiselkov, a native of Burgas, Bulgaria, led his team to the national championship in 2016, while also being the team MVP and has represented Bulgaria multiple times since 2018.
Stipic, a national team champion at the U14, U18 and senior level in Subotica, Serbia, has also represented his country at the Euopean Championships in Solvakia at the U18 level.
